Garden Railroad In Process
This site has been the most challenging to date, because of the 12 foot grade change. Most people don't realize that the engineering on all railroads, both real and imaginary, can only operate on no more than a 2 1/2 to 3% grade. In order to accomplish this engineering feat requires every trick in the book, including bridges, trestles, and endless track "run outs" to keep the trains from propelling themselves downhill at breakneck speeds. Additionally, the site was extremely narrow, with two existing underdeveloped waterfalls. Various buildings were custom built to represent the owners vocations and interests. They include the recently restored Victorian Town Hall, (he is the Mayor of Bloomingdale, Illinois), his wife's Quilt Shop, and a highly detailed County Fair complete with a horse racing track.
